About LüTZCO

LüTZCO is a small business located in the Loess Hills of Iowa.  I have always been a sucker for functional form.  I refer to it as a place where artisan meets utilitarian and neither one steals the show. My 30 years of working in the construction industry has exposed me to an array of design preferences.  Though I always enjoyed a good project, to be honest, I never set out to make things for others. A leaky pipe and cosmetic remodel are what spawned LüTZCO. I had trouble finding exactly what I was looking for as our remodel neared the final decorating stage, which were pieces with a warm, industrial feel and pops of color here and there. Realizing I had plenty of materials already hidden away in the garage, I built exactly what I wanted and used what I I already had with the exception of a few metal parts and pieces. I found that I truly enjoyed the process of creating and wanted to keep doing so, using local and reclaimed materials when possible.

I am drawn to the intersect of  rustic materials and modern cleanliness.  I love the textures of natural woods paired with the smooth lines of acrylic sheet goods and the industrial feel of metals.  I strive to create pieces that are utilitarian in purpose while staying rooted in modern design and artistic form. When taking photographs I try to keep them simple, to the point and not overly produced.  However, sometimes I just can't help but add a pop of color or visual blur to a photo. The freedom to think, design and make without boundaries has been a joy for me. I hope that this joy is visible in what I do and that you find some inspiration of your own in the simple design and genuine photographs here at LüTZCO. I thank you for stopping by and for your interest in small scale makers like myself and the original goods and wares we have to offer.   -D.C. Lutz
